You can be objective about other people; you stand outside them. You know them better than they know themselves; it's simple instinct. We learn to size up other people pretty quickly.

What we can't easily do is be objective about ourselves. When we look in a mirror, what we see is filtered though our dominant thoughts and emotions. A confident man sees a leader of men, a neurotic man sees imaginary faults.

We're expected to be bright, educated, successful and happy in the 21st Century and if we're not, we're propagandised that something is wrong with us. In truth, not everyone can be the winner; by definition, some must lose so one can win. What we can change is how we react to what occurs outside us and within our heads and hearts.

Why are saints and mystics happy with nothing when many wealthy men are miserable? Saints are happy because they have made contact with God and so they are not as affected by life's petty trials. Their perspective has changed. They are masters of their thoughts and emotions. They are not mastered by them.

Wealthy men can be miserable because they have more objects to be worried about!
